RAISING ENERGY
How Does it Work?
Raising energy has been a buzz phrase used through the metaphysical community and through our “straight-line” culture for many years. For the “straight-line” culture it’s “getting psyched” or getting into the “headspace” to do some activity or task. For the metaphysical community it relates to “building a charge” so we might move smoothly through something we might not ordinarily do in our daily activities. For both, they may employ different perspectives to do so but the end result will essentially be the same. We become powered up for performing. But what is actually happening?
Do we really raise energy, or do we simply put ourselves in a “headspace” for a special activity? The truth is, we really don’t raise energy because, whether we realize it or not, it is already there and at our disposal, but we simply don’t have access to it at the moment. Why? Let’s first look at a “headspace” activity to get a better understanding of what we’re dealing with.
Unless you’re a dedicated workaholic, we all have hobbies and activities that we enjoy spending our time doing. These activities don’t necessarily “contribute” anything to our support or life maintenance and allow us to enjoy some “me” time. They are primarily a pastime that allows us to disconnect from our daily stresses. The dedicated workaholic would view this as wasting our time or avoiding our responsibilities. But if we allow ourselves to become immersed in the activity, time stops, our stresses lessen, and we emerge from the activity refreshed and energized. Sometimes we become so immersed that hours can seem like minutes. We’ve all had activities that we become involved in and find that much more time has passed than we had thought. This is one of the ways that we feel that we have raised energy. But did we actually raise energy? No. We simply removed from our consciousness some of the undesirable feelings and activities that were drawing on or occupying our energy. Also, notice that I did not say depleting our energy. It’s still there but otherwise occupied.
Since energy can neither be created nor destroyed, it is always here. In this light, it cannot be raised. It can only be freed from whatever is occupying it. And whatever is occupying it is there because our intention and consciousness has put it there. This says everything about our intention and our focus.
Energy follows thought. It is mindless. It goes exactly where we put it. If we focus on distressing issues, it will be invested in what we are challenged by. If we focus on enjoyable things; it and we will move smoothly through the activity and it will be freed from any of the prevailing conscious obsessions or compulsions we normally direct it toward. The hardest part of this that faces our consciousness is for us to first, recognize what our mind is obsessed with and, second, recognize that all we have to do is change the channel. But that’s a much harder nut to crack than we think.
First of all, the most important coercion toward keeping our energy focused on “responsible” tasks is the belief that our responsibility to the world and what it expects of us is much more important than our own happiness and well-being. Second, we believe that our abdication of that responsibility immeasurably damages our public image. Hence, we almost never give ourselves permission to enjoy ourselves. And if we do, we feel that we must hide it from others or make excuses for it for fear of being seen as being frivolous or irresponsible. This crashes our sense of self-worth.
When this kind of “responsibility” occupies the focus of our energy, there is not much left to do anything else. It blocks our use of energy for anything playful or enjoyable. We’ve made changing the channel of where we apply our energy virtually impossible. So, on top of this, when we say we need to raise energy, we’re only fooling ourselves that we can willfully conjure up anything more. Truthfully, our only option is to diminish the use of it in the obsessions and compulsions we’ve focused it on.
So, do we raise energy? No. We can make it available by freeing it through changing the channel of where we are applying it. We can do this through focusing our mind and attention on hobbies, meditation and activities that will break our obsessions and compulsions diverting our attention away from the things that cause us stress and aggravation. We also do this when we sleep. This is why catnaps are so recharging. When we sleep, the mind literally lets go of conscious focus and the body is able to use the freed energy to regenerate and revitalize us. We usually wake up fresh and recharged…until we resume the same stress producing activities and thinking.
The mind is a wonderful tool. We are not our minds. We have a mind. Renes Descartes said, “I think, therefore, I am.” That puts a whole lot of emphasis on our mind being the central point of our being. It’s not. We should rather say, “I am, therefore I think.” This relegates our minds to simply being a tool that is employed by “something” else. That something else is our spirit, our soul and the Witness. This part of us is simply an observer. When we put our headspace here, the mind is incapable of occupying our energy. Here we have total energy availability…
So, do you need an energy recharge? Paint, dance, read, meditate, sleep or do any activity that will absorb all of your attention. This changes the channel. It will calm your mind and reduce your tension and you will come back to feeling like you’ve just raised your energy.
